APN 14% ahead in first half

APN, the media group with businesses in Australia and New Zealand, has reported pre-tax profits of A$109.4m for the first six months of this year, up 14% on the same period last year.

The group, 40% owned by Independent News & Media, reported 10% growth in revenue to A$652m. Chief executive Brendan Hopkins said the company expected to meet its target of double digit percentage growth for the full year if current conditions continued.

APN's New Zealand publishing division, which includes the flagship New Zealand Herald, saw profits up 14%. Profits in the regional newspaper division rose by 16%, while radio profits jumped by 28%.
