Dell sets up new Limerick R&D centre

Dell today announced that it is to set up a new Centre of Competency for product development in Limerick.

The new centre will be based in a purpose-designed laboratory at Dell's existing campus in Limerick with an initial workforce of 28 people, which will be taken from its existing specialist engineering team.

The new centre will have reseach and development capability and numbers employed there could grow to 50 by 2009, Dell says.

It will operate as a centre of competency for communications and network product development for use in Dell products worldwide.

A collaboration programme with the University of Limerick is planned as part of the project, which will help support the continued growth and development of the facility.

'Today's announcement reinforces the importance of Ireland to Dell as a great location for higher value-add functions', commented  Nicky Hartery, vice president of manufacturing and business operations, Dell EMEA.
