Good interest in Leinster Leader group

The Leinster Leader today confirmed that a large number of parties have submitted expressions of interest to purchase the newspaper group by yesterday's deadline.

The Co Kildare based company said that over the coming days its Board will assess these approaches and, through its advisers, PricewaterhouseCoopers, contact the parties involved.

'The process has gone well so far and we are pleased with the level of interest. This has come both from Ireland and overseas and includes existing industry players and private equity funds,' the Chairman of The Leinster Leader Limited, John McStay, said in a statement this evening.

The Leinster Leader group is owned by almost 30 private investors, led by accountant John McStay and lawyer Anthony Collins.

Based in Naas, the group publishes five weekly regional newspapers - the Dundalk Democrat, Leinster Express, Leinster Leader, Limerick Leader and Offaly Express. It also publishes an evening paper in Limerick three times a week. The group has a weekly circulation of over 80,000 and has a total workforce of over 200.

It bought Dublin suburban newspaper the Echo last month.
