A new Irish telecommunications company, Imag!ne, is offering what it claims is the cheapest broadband internet access service in Europe.
The new service costs €9.99 - including VAT - a month and offers 20 hours of broadband a month with additional hours charged at 3.5 cent a minute.
Imag!ne is part of Imag!ne Communications Group, founded by Sean Bolger. Its other subsidaries include Access Telecom and Gaelic Telecom .
The company says its rate is a full €10 lower than the nearest competing offering in Ireland.
Imag!ne says that competitive pricing in Europe has seen broadband take-up rise to an average of over 20%, while take-up in Ireland is only 4%.
It says that to date pricing in Ireland has made broadband too expensive for consumers.
'The launch today by Imag!ne of broadband at €9.99 per month means that everyone can now afford to get broadband and positions Ireland as the lowest cost location for broadband access in Europe,' a statement from the company said.
Imag!ne also offers an Always On Broadband package for €19.99 a month, and an Always On Plus broadband package for €44.99 a month.
