Dublin-based internet service provider IE Internet has been accredited as an official registrar for the new .EU domain name.
EURid, which manages the domain on behalf of the EU Commission, has appointed 27 registrars in 15 different countries to date. IE Internet is the only accredited registrar appointed in Ireland.
The .EU domain will be launched later this year, and IE Internet begins accepting applications today. Under EU rules, public bodies and businesses can apply to register their .EU domain name during a 'sunrise period', which will start later this year. This will run for four months, after which .EU domains will be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis.
