BSkyB adds 8,000 Irish subscribers

Satellite broadcaster BSkyB has reported underlying pre-tax profits of £209m for its third quarter to the end of March, up 50% on the same period a year earlier.

The company also added 95,000 subscribers, well ahead of expectations. Chief executive James Murdoch has launched an aggressive marketing campaign as part of a growth strategy.

In Ireland, the number if digital subscribers moved up by 8,000 to 355,000 in the three months, representing growth of 12% in the year to March 31.

The parent group said it remained on track to achieve its target of eight million customers by the end of the year. Group revenue shot up 8.3% to just over £1 billion.
