Strong trading wipes out IEDR deficit

The IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the company responsible for registering and administering .ie internet addresses, has reported pre-tax profits of just under €900,000 for last year, almost double the amount recorded in the previous year.

Turnover rose by around 10% to €2.2m, with the strong economy helping to boost new registrations by 32%. The IEDR says costs at the company were reduced by 13%, following a 50% cut in 2003. The company also cut its prices by 12.5% from January 1.

The company has returned to financial health following losses of €1.2m in 2002, when there was an investigation into its management and financial affairs. It says current trading is 'excellent' and its accumulated deficit of €61,000 at the end of last year has already been eliminated this year.
