The communications regulator ComReg has threatened Eircom with financial penalties if it does not attend a meeting on Friday.
ComReg said this evening it had ordered Eircom to take part in a meeting intended to update the telecoms industry on its response to requests for the development of Local Loop Unbundling products.
In a statement, the regulator said a meeting it had planned for yesterday did not take place 'as it became clear to ComReg that Eircom did not intend to address the relevant matters'.
ComReg said failure to comply with today's direction would result in an application to the High Court for an order directing compliance or financial penalties.
Local Loop Unbundling is the process which allows Eircom's rivals to gain access to the telephone line between the local telephone exchange and the customer.
