iQon to revive Compustore brand

Dundalk IT group iQon has taken over Compustore, the IT retail chain which went into liquidation earlier this year.

IQon has bought the brand, trademarks and franchise operations of the company. Compustore's four Dublin stores closed at the end of October, but a number of regional franchise outlets were unaffected.

IQon said it would invest over €2m in developing and marketing a network of Compustore outlets, which would operate exclusively on a franchised basis.

But drector Dermot McElroy later told RTE radio that the company's former staff and properties would not be retained.

The business will operate as an independent company, Compustore 2004 Ltd. IQon says it is already in talks with new franchisees and expects to have eight stores trading by the end of March next year. Director Ciaran O'Donoghue said the aim was to have more than 20 stores trading for the peak period in 2005.
