Philips plan - Medical focus

The chief executive of Dutch electronics giant Philips says it is considering selling its consumer electronics activities, for which it is best known.

Gerald Kleisterlee told the German newspaper Die Welt that the company wanted to concentrate instead on the medical technology business.

'There is no point in making products that earn us little or no money,' he said, without saying which activities he had in mind.

By contrast, the medical technology sector, which is growing by 5% each year in Europe and the US, was a
priority for the group, Kleisterlee said.
