The Irish music industry has said it is prepared to take legal action against people who illegally download music and copy CDs from the internet.
The head of IRMA, Dick Doyle, said file sharers (people who upload music) and downloaders were behaving in an illegal manner and could face severe penalties such as hefty fines of €127,000 and or up to three years in prison.
IRMA will shortly begin a campaign aimed at ending the practice. This will be in the form of a pop-up message on people's computers advising them against downloading or file sharing.
