Hutchison Whampoa, the ports-to-telecoms conglomerate owned by Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing, today reported its first half net profit rose 106% to 12.5 billion HK dollars ($1.6 billion).
Analysts had forecast a net profit of 11.70-12.90 billion HK dollars.
The boost came despite booking an 8.92 billion dollar loss from its '3' third-generation mobile telecoms business.
