Britain's Competition Commission has provisionally cleared the sale of Independent News & Media's 27 weekly newspapers in the London area to Archant.
The commission found that the deal would not lead to a substantial lessening of competition in the advertising market in the areas covered by the papers.
Independent has received £57m in cash from Archant and expects to receive the remaining £5m once the regulatory process is completed.
