Irish exports to countries outside the EU fell in May, seasonally adjusted figures from the Central Statistics Office this morning showed.
Exports were worth €2,386m in May, compared with €2,924m in April. Imports also fell, from €1,790 to €1,560.
For the first five months of the year, exports to non-EU countries are down 1% on the same period in 2003, with computer exports 25% lower and chemicals exports down 8%.
Imports are up 4%, boosted by strong aviation imports. Imports from China are up 48% on the same period in 2003, but Japanese imports are down 13%.
