Avica Thurles move may mean 50 jobs

US digital cinema technology and services company Avica Technology Corporation has opened its European operations headquarters in Thurles, Co Tipperary. The new HQ, located in the Shannon Development Tipperary Technology Park, has the potential to create up to 50 new jobs.

Avica's software products have been used for over 90,000 digital cinema screenings worldwide including recent blockbuster films Shrek 2 and The Day After Tomorrow.

Nicholas Clay, Avica's Chairman and CEO, said the company chose Thurles as its European headquarters because of the availability of a highly skilled, technology-focused workforce, especially from the nearby Tipperary Institute.

He added the the support of both the Government and the county council for new technology companies as well as the favourable general business climate of the region make Thurles an attractive location for Avica.
