NTL Ireland has announced it is to spend €100m upgrading its cable network. This will enable it deliver broadband services to over 100,000 homes in Dublin, Waterford and Galway by the end of the year.

The investment follows the significantly improved financial and operational performance of NTL Ireland in the past year, the company said.

By 2006, NTL Ireland said it hopes that 450,000 homes will be able to receive its broadband service. It also said it will begin offering a broadband product for $25 a month from August to the 28,000 homes in Dublin which are currently enabled to take broadband.

'This move reaffirms NTL Ireland's commitment to the Irish marketplace and to the broadband market in particular,' commented Graham Sutherland, Managing Director of NTL Ireland.

'We share the Government's vision of making broadband services more widely available at competitive prices in order to place Ireland in the top tier of OECD countries for broadband access. We intent to do this by providing more choice and greater value to customers,' he added.

Customers who sign up for NTL Ireland's broadband package from August will be able to choose from a 300kbps service from €25 a month, a 750kbps service for €35 a month or a 1.5mb service for €50 a month. Subscribers will also get free installation and free first three months subscription.
