Independent Newspapers (Ireland) today confirmed that 205 voluntary redundancies sought by the company have been achieved within today's deadline.
A package of €23 million (or an average payment of €112,000 per employee) has been available since August 2003.
Commenting, Vincent Crowley, chief executive, Independent Newspapers (Ireland) said: "Technology and ever increasing competition have forced Independent to take some hard decisions.
Change was imperative for the future competitiveness of our company and to ensure the security and generous terms of employment enjoyed by our remaining 410 staff.
Areas affected included telesales and clerical / administration as well as some pre-press and service / facilities positions. The recently restructured Citywest printing operations and editorial operations were not impacted.
