ICT Expo, the country's annual information and communications technology event, opened its doors today in the RDS in Dublin. It is the biggest business technology event taking place during e-week and comes amid renewed confidence in Ireland's ICT sector.
The expo provides a forum for the ICT industry to converge and put forward their ideas on the current issues, latest trends and future challenges for the sector.
'We estimate that almost €1 billion in the next three years is to be invested in ICT infrastructure, between private and public sector, mobile and fixed line, satellite and broadcast,' commented the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Dermot Ahern, at the opening of today's event.
'Irish people pick up technological change quickly. Many international innovate companies test their products in Ireland first because of our openness to new products,' he said.
He pointed out that we, per head, have the second highest take-up globally of Playstation and text messaging.
