Japan deal - JTB Corp signs up

Travel software group Datalex has signed a new deal with Japan's leading travel agency group, JTB Corporation.

The contract is the first of its kind to be awarded by JTB to a foreign technology company, and gives Datalex another foothold in the burgeoning Asia-Pacific market.

JTB will use the BookIt! suite of software for its range of prepackaged and escorted tour programmes.

Established in 1912 and with an annual total sales turnover of about $15 billion, and about 11,000 employees, JTB Corp is the largest and most established travel operator in Japan.

'Along with our existing contracts in Singapore, Malaysia and Australia, this represents a further strengthening of Datalex's position in the global marketplace,' commented Damian Hickey, Datalex SVP Business Development.

* Datalex founder Neil Wilson has sold nearly 1.7 million shares in the company at 60 cent for a total of just under €1m, reducing his stake to just over 8% from 10.6%.
