Government figures released today show continued growth in demand for flat rate internet and broadband high-speed internet connections.
Communications Minister Dermot Ahern told EU telecoms ministers in Brussels that the number of flat rate customers had doubled to 60,000 in the last six months, while there were now 42,000 broadband customers, up from 13,000 in October last year.
The Minister also said the issue of 'spam' or unsolicited e-mails was an issue that had to be tackled, adding that he was keen to explore opportunities for co-operation with the US.
