Radio listeners down by 2% - JNLR

The number of people who listened to a mix of national, regional and local radio throughout the country fell by 2% to 86% for the 12 months of 2003, according to the latest figures today.

The JNLR/TNS mrbi survey results for January to December 2003 show that the reach figure for local and regional stations was static at 54%, while all the national stations registered a slight decrease in their 'listened yesterday figures'.

RTE Radio One's listenership was down 2% to 28% in 2003 compared to 2002, 2FM's figures were also down 2% to 25%. Today FM's figures fell by 3% to 14% while Lyric FM was down one to 3%.

According to the survey, the top five local radio stations for 2003 were Highland Radio (with a listenership of 70%), Mid West Radio (68%), North West Radio (63%), Limerick's Live 95FM (60%) and Radio Kilkenny (55%).

Other stations to register a reach of more than 50% included WLR FM, Shannonside Northern Sound, Clare FM and Galway Bay FM.

In Dublin, 98FM's 'listened yesterday' figure increased by 2% to 22%, while FM104's figure was the same as 2002 at 20%. Lite FM registered a reach of 9%, down 3%, while Spin 1038 had a listenership of 5%. NewsTalk 107 reached 4% of listeners in Dublin, while Country 106.8 was listened to by 3% of Dubliners.
