Biotrin named Exporter of the Year

Dublin-based biotechnology company Biotrin International has won the DHL Exporter of the Year Award for 2003. The company specialises in providing tests for hospital laboratories, clinicians and research scientists.

Established in 1992, it now employs 64 people and currently exports its products to a total of 50 countries covering the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Almost 100% of its revenue is accounted for by exports.

Presenting today's awards, Tanaiste Mary Harney said that 'exports are the lifeblood of all dynamic and innovative companies'.

'Ireland is a small market of four million people and a commitment to identifying and developing overseas markets is the key to future growth and expansion,' she added.

AM-BEO, Atlanfish, Biotrin International, Libra Designs and Shannon Minerals reached the 2003 finals, with Biotrin emerging as the overall winner. The judging panel included Pat Delaney from the Small Firms Association, Jim Maguire from Enterprise Ireland, John Whelan from the Irish Exports Association, John Dunne from the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland , Barry Kenny from the Irish Management Institute and Bernard McCarthy from DHL.
