Sheikh rumour stirs Leeds shares

Shares in English Premier League football club Leeds United jumped by 40% in London this morning on renewed hopes that an Arab sheikh is to buy the club, staving off the threat of administration.

This morning's Mirror newspaper reported that Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Mubarak Al-Khalifa had raised £35m to buy the club and invest in new players.

Leeds have debts of around £80m and face a deadline of January 19 to strike a deal to avoid entering administration.
