Science Foundation Ireland has allocated another €69m for research funding, including €10m for a new centre for science, engineering and technology at Trinity College Dublin, in partnership with UCC and UCD.
The Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices (CRANN) will develop tools and techniques to build new structures which could be used in microelectronics and drug delivery systems. Intel is the main industry partner in this centre.
TCD will also receive a further €11m for a specialised nanoscience research facility.
NUI Galway also receives €15m for the establishment of the Regenerative Medicine Institute. The university said an additional €4m would be contributed by a number of Irish and multinational companies.
SFI has now invested €320m in research on behalf of the Government.
