Yahoo third quarter profits double

Internet giant Yahoo's net profit for the third quarter more than doubled from a year ago to $65.3m, as a new strategy to seek more income from services and fees began to pay off.

The Internet portal managed to beat Wall Street estimates, with earnings amounting to 10 cents a share, ahead of the average forecast of nine cents.

Revenues for the third quarter totaled $356.8m, a 43% increase over the same period in 2002.
