More virus misery for Microsoft

Technology giant Microsoft is being sued for unfair competition and violation of consumersrights laws in California because of the alleged vulnerability of its software to hackers and viruses.

The class action suit claims Microsoft's security warnings are too complex to be understood by the general public and instead tip off fast moving hackers on how to exploit flaws in the system.

In August the so-called Blaster worm was the latest in a series of viruses designed to attack flaws in Microsoft's software.

A spokeswoman for Microsoft said the complaint missed the point, because the problems were caused by viruses which were the results of criminal acts by their authors.
