O2 Ireland growth steady in H1

Mobile group mmO2 says it expects O2 Ireland to record what it calls further steady growth in revenue and earnings for its first half to the end of September.

The company said revenue in its British operation grew strongly but was expected to slow in the second half because of cuts in charges which were imposed by the regulator.

MmO2 also said that capital expenditure for the full year would be 5% to 10% below previous estimates of £1.3 billion.

Chief executive Peter Erskine said investment in 3G would increase in the second half, and that it would launch services when conditions were right.
