IoS parent finding ad going tough

British media group Daily Mail & General Trust, which owns Ireland on Sunday, says advertising markets remain tough.

In a trading update, it says Ireland on Sunday doubled its circulation in the period, but remains in loss.

The publisher of the Daily Mail, Britain's second biggest newspaper by sales, and London's Evening Standard, said display advertising revenues at its national newspapers fell 3.5% in the 11 months to the end of August.

But the decline slowed in July and August and circulation at both the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday rose in the six months to August against a declining market.

Daily Mail said advertising revenues at its regional titles rose 3% in the 11 months to August, helped by a 13% rise in property advertising sales. Circulation revenues over the same period rose 4% on the year.
