Indo's Australian arm makes A$45m

Independent’s Australian subsidiary, APN News & Media, has announced net profit after tax of A$44.7m for the six months to the end of June, up 24% on the previous year. Group revenue before non-recurring items was A$542m, an increase of 14%.

APN’s chief executive, Brendan Hopkins, said the results reflected a continuation of the improved trading conditions in the last quarter of 2002.

He added that the performance was underpinned by particularly good performances from the Australian and New Zealand newspaper businesses.

Independent News and Media owns a 43% stake in APN.
