The English Premier League has tied up a new £1.024 billion deal with satellite broadcaster BSkyB for the rights to screen live games over three years from the start of the 2004/2005 season.
The league, under pressure from the European Commission which had objected to the way the rights were sold, had offered four different packages for the rights for live games. BSkyB won the rights to all four packages.
BSkyB paid £1.1 billion for the current three-year deal which expires at the end of the coming season.
The BBC paid £105m for the highlights package.
