Trinity Mirror to sell NI papers

Newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror is to sell its newspaper division in Northern Ireland as part of an overhaul which will also see 550 jobs cut.

The NI division includes the Derry Journal, the Donegal Democrat and Century Press & Publishing, which prints The News Letter in Belfast.

The moves follow a review of the business by new chief executive Sly Bailey. The company, which publishes Britain's Daily Mirror and has a portfolio of about 260 regional newspapers, said it was looking to achieve annual cost savings of £25m by 2005.
