The British Government has launched a multi-million pound plan to provide broadband internet access to the entire Northern Ireland population within three years.
Northern Ireland Office Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Ian Pearson, today announced a Europe-wide tender for broadband services.
Currently broadband is available only in Belfast, Derry and a small number of rural towns and cities.
DETI said it was intended that the provider or providers of broadband services would retain ownership of the infrastructure and that there would be a sharing of public/private sector risk.
