Mobile phone giant Motorola has cut its second quarter sales and profit estimates as phone sales in Asia were hit by the SARS outbreak.
The company also said it was likely to lower its full-year sales and profit forecasts when it released second quarter results next month, because it expected SARS to hurt sales in Q3 and Q4.
Motorola also said its semiconductor products division had also been hurt by SARS. It added that one of its chip plants in Japan had been damaged by an earthquake.
Its estimates now are for Q2 sales of $6-6.2 billion, down from $6.4-6.6 billion, and net income of two cents per share, compared with 3-5 cents per share previously.
