Chip designer Xilinx has designated Ireland as its European headquarters and the company has opened a €52m expansion to its esisting Dublin research and development (R&D), design and operations centre.
Tanaiste Mary Harney officially opened the new facility with Xilinx chief executive and president Wim Roelandts today.
The firm employs 340 staff in Ireland and it intends to increase staff numbers to 500 over coming months.
Xilinx also announced plans to establish an international technical support facility in Dublin following a decision to locate strategic marketing operations in Dublin.
Xilinx raised its outlook for fourth-quarter revenue to the high end of its forecast range of US$285m to US$295m, citing strength in Europe and Asia Pacific.
The firm said it sees revenues in North America unchanged from the third quarter and revenue from Europe and Asia Pacific up from the third quarter. Revenues from Japan are expected to fall.
