O2 Irish customers more valuable

Irish mobile phone users on the O2 network spend an average 30% more using their mobile phones than O2's customers in Britain. They spend 38% more than O2's German customers, and a massive 51% more than the company's Dutch users.

Irish O2 customers spend an average €47 per month on their phone, with pre-pay customers spending €29 and contract customers spending €88 per month.

The figures are revealed in O2's first half results, which were published today. Recent figures from Vodafone also show Ireland is a lucrative market for mobile phone companies, with Vodafone's Irish customers spending on average 17% more than their UK customers and 42% more than those in Germany.

O2 has 1.2m customers in Ireland, of which 70% use its prepaid Speakeasy service.

Speaking on Morning Ireland O2 Ireland's chief executive Danuta Gray said Ireland was the sixth cheapest of 20 countries in Europe for prepaid mobile customers.
