The RTE Authority said today that it was terminating the sale of its Transmission Network. RTE said it was making the decision after a full review of the process.
Estimates of the value of the transmission system have ranged from as low as €20 million up to €127 million.
RTE had retained the services UK merchant bank Rothschilds to advise on the process.
The review process took account of the fact that the It's TV consortium recently withdrew from the Government's digital multiplex licence process.
The current poor market and economic conditions, and the announcement by Government that it now intends to review all options for the roll out of digital television in Ireland, were also factored into today's decision.
In a statement, RTE said it looked forward to being a significant contributor to the Government's consultative process on the future digital policy framework.
