Tech body sets up infrastructure group

ICT Ireland believes that current infrastructure deficits are undermining the competitiveness and long term prospects of the Irish Information and Communications Technology Sector.

It says that a renewed commitment to the strategic infrastructure elements within the National Development Plan is essential as it believes the success - or otherwise - of the plan may well determine Ireland's future as a base for ICT related industry.

ICT Ireland has established a Special Working Group to address infrastructure based impediments to the ICT sector.

'To maintain Ireland's competitiveness, it is imperative that local and central Government work together to quickly eliminate our infrastructure deficit, which is particularly pronounced in regional locations,' the group's Chairman Mike Conroy said. He is Director of R&D at Nortel Networks.

The group hopes to identify the key priorities and measures required to tackle the growing challenges to Ireland's competitiveness and has proposed a five point plan to overcome the country's infrastructure deficits.
