Independent News and Media has bought back 500,000 of its own shares at a cost of €1.95 per share.
The company shares have performed poorly this week, down 6% yesterday, and falling another 4% today to €1.92 at 2.40pm.
The company is currently arguing with unions at the Belfast Telegraph over a new pay deal.
