Up to 45 jobs are to go at O2 Ireland, the mobile operator formerly known as Digifone, because of a restructuring of its retail business under a new company O2 Retail.
The new company will comprise Cellular World, O'Hagan Communications, Eire Communications and Access Communications. Brendan O'Hagan, founder of O'Hagan Communications, has been appointed managing director of the new company.
O2 says the first phase of the restructuring will see up to 45 jobs going at the subsidiaries' current headquarters.
The second phase includes a review of the current number of 100 plus stores nationwide, which employ 250 people. Further details will be announced in mid-June, but a company spokesperson would not comment on the possible outcome of the review.
