Mm02 expects to beat market forecasts

mm02, Europe's fifth largest mobile phone company, said on Friday that it expected to beat market forecasts for full year EBITDA of £410 million sterling.

mm02, which was spun off from British Telecom, owns Digifone in Ireland.

In a trading statement ahead of its closed period, mm02 said its capital expenditure for the year to the end of March would be slightly lower than analysts expected, leading to a lower than anticipated net debt figure at the end of the year.

The group, which has operations in Britain, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands, said it was not seeking to change analyst expectations for earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation for the year to March 2003, which it believes to be around £800 million sterling.

mm02 said it had signed up over 250 corporate customers to its BlackBerry mobile e-mail service since its launch in Britain late last year.

Today's positive trading statement will provide further support for the mobile sector after Orange reported strong 2001 results earlier this week.
