BCI to advertise for local radio services

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland is to advertise for local and commercial radio services throughout the country. The licences for most of the existing local radio operators expire during 2003 and 2004.

The commission will seek applications in most of the existing franchise areas, apart from three changes. One franchise will be offered for Carlow/Kilkenny, one for County Kildare and one for County Tipperary.

In addition, the BCI will advertise for two new special interest services on medium wave - one in Galway, the other in Limerick.
