Digifone unveils GPRS offering

Mobile operator Digifone, now owned by MMO2, has launched its GPRS service, which is says will be available immediately to corporate, business and contract consumer customers.

Digifone says it is the first operator to offer GPRS roaming facilities to Irish customers in the UK and Germany. It is also offering 'always on' wireless e-mail services to corporate customers through Research in Motion's BlackBerry system.

The company is offering six separate tariff structures, which will factor in monthly megabyte allowances, similar to call credit when buying a mobile phone.

Pre-paid customers will be able to avail of these services from summer 2002.

'The commercial availability of a full range of GPRS services and applications for all our customers is the final validation of Digifone's commitment to the provision of 3G,' said chief executive Danuta Gray.

Eircell Vodafone launched its GPRS service to corporate customers earlier this month.
