A survey by the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland has shown that 81% of Irish small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are happy with dial-up access to the Internet.
It also finds that SMEs are not in a position to take up broadband offering because of the high cost.
The CCI says it 'completely rejects' IBEC's call for telecommunications providers to be allowed to raise the cost of services to business, saying Ireland is already one of the most expensive places among OECD members to rent leased lines.
Chief executive John Dunne says the real issue is that Ireland's regulatory environment does not yet allow for competition in the most important areas.
He has called for the Government to fast-track the Communications Bill, which will give the telecoms regulator more power.
