Síle de Valera has said that the conditions laid down in July for a further licence fee increase for RTÉ will still have to be satisfied.
The Minister for Arts and Culture was speaking in the Dáil today.
She said that the conditions laid down by the Government would have to be met, notwithstanding the current financial situation at RTÉ.
Responding to questions from Fine Gael's Dinny McGinley, who had asked if the fee review currently underway could be brought forward, the Minister said that the licence fee could not be seen as a cushion against the real financial world in which RTÉ operated.
She said that the station itself acknowledged that its costs were far too high, adding that serious issues had to be addressed if there were to be a further increase.
