Computer maker Compaq has announced a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement programme for around 1.4 million adapters used with certain commercial notebook computer products.
The company says these AC adapters and power cords can overheat, posing a potential fire hazard.
While there have been only five failures reported, Compaq says it considers this defect a potential risk and is taking a proactive measure to ensure the safety of its customers.
It says none of the reported failures involved personal injury or property damage. Customers affected will receive a new replacement AC adapter and power cord.
