Riverdeep pays $60m for US software group

E-learning company Riverdeep is buying the education assets of US group The Learning Company in a deal worth $60m.

The Learning Company is owned by Gores Technology Group, which will receive $40m of Riverdeep shares. Riverdeep will also take on $20m in debt.

Through the deal Riverdeep acquires all of TLC's education software brands.

In August Riverdeep paid $13.5m to acquire US firm Teacher Universe. IBM also placed half of the stake it holds in Riverdeep, about 7% of the company's share capital.

Shares in Riverdeep closed down seven cents at 4.13 euros in Dublin.
