Esat Digifone has 997,000 active customers in Ireland, according to figures released today by its parent company BT Wireless.
655,000 of these are active pre-paid customers, 342,000 post-paid. Digifone added 24,000 new customers in the first quarter to the end of June, representing growth of 2.5% on the previous quarter.
BT Wireless, which is to be split from British Telecom before the end of the year, recorded active customer growth of 3.1% in the period.
The company says it has now eliminated all inactive pre-paid customers from its figures. It defines pre-paid customers as active only if they have used the network within the last three months.
