PepsiCo promises 250 new jobs for Cork

The US soft drinks company, PepsiCo, manufacturers of Pepsi Cola, has confirmed that it plans to build a new plant in Cork as part of a multi-million pound investment.

The plant will manufacture concentrates for the Irish and European markets for the company's range of soft drinks and will generate 250 new jobs.

Operating at Little Island in Cork for the past 27 years, PepsiCo said on Friday that it will build a second concentrate manufacturing facility in the county at Carrigaline. The multinational is now in the final stages of approving plans to invest £150 million in this second facility.

The first hurdle for the project was cleared earlier today when Cork County Council agreed to sell 25 acres at Carrigaline to the company for the new plant which will be operational by early 2003.
