British Telecom has refused to confirm a report that it is to replace all of its mobile brand names, including Esat Digifone in Ireland, with a single international identity.
The company is to demerge its mobile division BT Wireless. The Financial Times said BT would rename its British mobile operation Cellnet and would also use the demerger as an opportunity to rebrand operations in Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands.
The FT said that when BT Wireless was floated in the Autumn, it would use the new name for the parent group and the UK retail operations, with the other operations being renamed later.
But BT said it had made no decision to rename the operating companies, adding that such issues were under constant review.
