The editor of the Irish Examiner, Brian Looney, has resigned. He has been replaced by the paper's associate editor, Tim Vaughan.
Mr Looney had been editor for just over five years, during which time the paper was re-launched twice.
Circulation has grown by around 20% in that time to sales of more than 60,000 copies per day. However, a marketing campaign last year for the launch of the Irish Examiner - which is estimated to have cost up to £2 million - is regarded within the industry as having fallen far short of targets.
It is understood that Mr Looney has agreed severance terms with the company and is to pursue other interests.
